Deepest sympathy to the family of Teacher Bertha. May you find strength and comfort in the Lord as you mourn the loss of your loved one.

Comment:

Teacher Bertha was my next door neighbor. I had the pleasure of growing up in the mid-fifties and sixties with her children, Jen, Bob and George, and also with her nephews Richardson Andrews and Byron Andrews. I still remember the great fun we, the children in the Beaulieu community, had at Easter time flying our kites in her back yard.

Teacher Bertha was a community leader. She brought people together through her organized concerts and plays. She could encourage and persuade. She was a perfectionist. She encouraged me to keep on smiling, and I listened. At the age of thirteen she taught me and asked me to sing Tis the Last Rose of Summer at one of her concerts. Two of Teacher Bertha’s finest productions that I can recall were The Merchant of Venice and The Birth of Jesus.

My brother Hugh has continued her legacy by providing wholesome entertainment not only for the residents of Beaulieu and its surrounding areas but for the nation. Teacher Bertha left us a powerful example of community involvement. My prayer is that the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, comfort her family and friends at this time of great loss.
